Would you rather stay on a liveaboard, return to a resort after diving, or combine both? When comparing a liveaboard with a resort in Raja Ampat, the number of travel days is only the starting point. How the diving works, how you move between the stays and what each part includes matter just as much.
A combination can suit someone who wants to follow a boat itinerary with a different pace on land. But extra resort nights do not automatically mean extra included dives. This guide gives you a way to compare the formats, using Raja Laut and Agusta Resort as a specific supplier example.
Compare three ways to arrange the trip
Start with how you want to use your days, rather than which accommodation looks most appealing. These are questions to investigate for the chosen itinerary, rather than promises about routes or daily activities.
| What to compare | Liveaboard | Resort | Combination |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your base | The vessel is your accommodation and base for the dive programme. | You return to the same accommodation on land. Ask how diving excursions depart. | You move from vessel to resort, with a separate transfer between them. |
| Route and reach | Request the planned route and ask which parts may change. | Ask which sites are reached from the base and which excursions cost extra. | Check whether the resort stay adds different activities or primarily time on land. |
| Daily rhythm | How do diving, meals and vessel movements fit together? | What are the excursion times, and which days would you keep free? | Which part deserves more time, and when does the change happen? |
| Items to compare in the price | Cabin, meals, specified dive programme and fees. | Room, meals, dive package and optional excursions separately. | Two stays and two inclusion lists, plus transfers and any gaps. |
| Your travel companions | What happens if someone skips a dive or does not dive? | Which activities are actually available at the resort? | Check both stays; a resort component does not establish whether the boat component suits everyone. |
You do not have to choose the option with the fullest programme. Choose the one whose daily arrangements you understand and whose priorities match your own.
The Raja Laut and Agusta Resort example
Emocean Travel’s published combination includes time aboard Raja Laut followed by a stay at Agusta Resort. The vessel component lists a standard cabin, meals, local guides and a specified dive programme. The resort component lists a shared Superior cottage and meals, with boat transfers between the stays.
Optional resort diving and day trips are separate extras. Do not count the resort days as additional days of included diving. Request a separate programme and price if you want to dive during that stay.
The published example is a 17-day package, with inquiries invited for travel between October and April. That does not establish a confirmed departure or 17 nights at the destination. Ask for a day-by-day plan showing international travel, vessel nights, resort nights and transfers. Your offer should state the exact split.
The published Danish travel arrangement starts from Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup, towards Sorong. If you prefer another departure city, flights and connections need to be specified for your offer. Do not assume a different departure point has the same published package terms.
Ask for a plan that shows the transitions
A combination depends on two stays working together. Request a simple itinerary with a line for each move:
| Part of the journey | What to have confirmed |
|---|---|
| Outbound travel and arrival | Departure city, arrival point, flight connections and any overnight stops. |
| Embarkation | Where and when you meet the vessel, and which transfer is included. |
| Vessel stay | Number of nights, cabin type and scope of the listed dive programme. |
| Move to the resort | Who arranges the transfer, its start and end points, and whether another overnight stay is needed. |
| Resort stay | Number of nights, accommodation, meals and the price of any requested diving or excursion. |
| Return journey | Transfers, any hotel nights and the timing of the final dive within the onward itinerary. |
Ask for the planned final-dive and flight times, then discuss the timetable with the operator using current flying-after-diving guidance. Seek qualified diving-medicine advice for individual questions.
Break down the quotation before comparing totals
Ask for the vessel stay, resort stay and transport to be described clearly enough to compare. Start with the items that affect how you will use the trip:
- Which dives are included aboard the vessel, and which resort activities are paid separately?
- Which equipment is included, and what needs to be hired or brought?
- What does the listed marine-park fee cover for your particular itinerary?
- Which baggage rules apply on each flight segment, including extra diving baggage?
- Which local charges, drinks, insurance and other personal expenses sit outside the package?
The supplier example lists equipment rental, extra diving baggage and optional resort activities among the additional costs. Treat that as a checklist rather than a guarantee of the contents of a future offer.
Start with your own priorities
A useful inquiry begins with what you want from the journey. Give your preferred period, approximate number of travel days, departure city, diving experience and travelling party. Then add a clear priority: more time following the vessel’s dive programme, more time at the resort, or a combination with certain days left without planned diving.
If you choose the resort for rest days, say so. If you choose it to continue diving, request resort diving as its own quotation item. That lets you compare the activities you want rather than relying on accommodation names.
Frequently asked questions
Is resort diving included in the Raja Laut and Agusta combination?
The published combination lists optional resort diving and day trips as separate extras. Ask for a specified programme if you want to add them.
Is a combination always better than a liveaboard alone?
No. It adds an accommodation change and divides your time differently. Compare which part you want to prioritise and how much time the transition takes.
Can someone who does not dive join the trip?
Ask about the selected vessel’s and resort’s arrangements for that person. Explain the activities and services they need; a resort stay does not make the whole journey suitable for everyone automatically.
Can I choose different dates or another departure city?
Include your preferences in the inquiry. The published season or Danish departure arrangement does not confirm spaces, flights or prices for those preferences.
Ask about the combination for your travel plans
View the Raja Laut and Agusta trip details, then use the inquiry form on that page. Tell Maisara Sayed your dates, departure airport, party size and whether you want to add resort diving.
Sea Silk Travel works with Emocean Travel in Denmark. Final dates, contents, price and availability are confirmed in writing. An inquiry is not a booking and does not reserve a place.
